We welcome new members to our troop at any time, whether new to Scouting, transitioning from Cub Scouts, or transferring from another troop. Just attend a meeting, get to know our leaders and scouts, and join in the fun!
Scouts BSA is available to boys and girls ages 11-17 years old. (Younger boys and girls can instead join Cub Scouts; check out Pack 449!)
And, when you’re ready, simply register online with these links:
You’ll then purchase a Scouts BSA Handbook (for boys or for girls) and a uniform (we can help you sort out what you’ll need), and you’re in!
Costs
Scout BSA membership dues (typically around $200/year) cover the cost of national membership in the Scouting America organization, as well as insurance, and are set by the national and council organizations. We also charge a small amount of troop dues (typically around $25-50/year) that stay with our local troop to defray the costs of badges and awards, supplies for activities, etc. You should be prepared for other expenses during the year, such as food and transportation costs for regular camping trips, and costs for special troop outings like ski trips and summer camp.
Troop 449 is committed to making Scouting accessible to every family, regardless of need. There are opportunities for scholarships to cover national dues, and our troop may hold occasional fundraisers that help cover local costs. Please talk to Scoutmaster Tom Fischer or Assistant Scoutmaster Katie Kross confidentially if your family would like to request a scholarship.
